It Is My Money
If you have a lot of money and you make an expensive mistake it hardly matters because the gap in your wallet or your bank account is barely noticed.
Visitors to London will know, or at least some will, that the old song “London Bridge is Falling Down” did not correctly predict the fate of said bridge. It was demolished, sold to a wealthy American and then replaced. The American got quite a surprise when he transported it to the Arizona Desert for re-erection. The story goes that the purchaser thought he was buying Tower Bridge, though he vehemently denied this, as did the agent who organized the £1 million sale (plus freight!).
Wealth, or an attitude towards wealth – envy, jealousy, complete indifference – pervades ALL of our society largely because money, or the lack of it, is an enormous driving force behind so much of our civilized world.
