Has Anyone Got a Lock?

Back in the 19th Century Australia was only a geographical term referring to a huge island in the Southern Hemisphere.
Bit by bit as white settlement expanded, chunks of land were marked off on a map and “given” to the residents enclosed by these lines along with the right to govern themselves instead of being “governed” by blokes in Sydney.
The dawn of a new century marked the birth of a brand new nation, but it didn’t dispose of the geographical and political states. I would like to think that the only rivalry between the states was restricted to teams of people chasing various sized balls around a large patch of green grass.
Border closures anyone?
