Discount From the Government
Now that June 30th has recently passed, the number of letters from worthy causes requesting donations and promising the joys of tax deductibility will diminish for another 10 months or so.
Australians as a nation are on the whole substantial supporters of charities. A large number of these supporters are encouraged by the equally substantial support given to charities by our government. By granting tax deductibility to the millions of citizens (both “ordinary” and “corporate”) who make deductible donations to everyone from the big guns like the Salvation Army or the Red Cross to a growing group of smaller more specialist charitable organizations, the Government (us) is really the major contributor. I’ve lost count of how many cancer funds exist, but there seems to be a growing number of specialist animal aid charities.
If you read last week’s blog you might be inclined to start your own money box collection and use your own small change to support a favoured charity. You won’t notice any difference to your lifestyle, but don’t forget the tax deduction!!
